This week we have been hammering down to meet deadlines so we have been BUSY. However we’ve got some racing going on too.
This weekend, we will be heading up to VIRginia International Raceway to check in with our friends at The Chandler School as they compete in the 24 hour ChampCar Endurance Series race.
Next weekend, Chris will be racing along side Alex, Clint, and Hank as they take Orange Tail Squirrel around Barber Motorsports Park for the World Racing League’s enduro.
There’s more racing coming up the rest of the month including CCR’s Autocross, SCCA at Barber, and NASA at VIR so stay tuned!

The Daylight Into Dark is a Majors event this year and it is next weekend (June 8-10)! Racing on Saturday will be ALL DAY with an 90 minute endurance race scheduled to start at 8pm AND a full schedule on Sunday. Have you registered yet?

“Finally getting around to posting about my race last weekend at Gingerman Raceway for the 2018 Spring Sprints.
It was a wet and wild weekend that saw me going from first to last to first and finally getting my first win!
For Saturday practice and qualifying it was raining and I was able to qualify P1 on 2+ year old very used rain tires. Everything got crazy from there.
So before the Spec Miata race, my dad went out for qualifying in STL. We remove some of the ballast in the car for him since he can run lighter in STL. In 3 years of doing this he has never been underweight…. until Saturday. He rolled across the scales 16 lbs underweight (I still have no idea how). This meant his qualifying time was disallowed and he was moved to the back of the grid for his race in STL. Unfortunately there was some confusion about this, and as I rolled up to the grid for my race I was directed to P16 on grid. Thankfully, after a short discussion all was fixed and I was awarded P1 back. But in hindsight, I should have taken the hint from fate, that I should have started in back, or not at all.
It turned out that before the weekend, when I had taken the front right caliper bracket off, I didn’t torque the bolts when i put it back on (first 2 bolts I’ve missed in 4 years) and they had been slowly backing themselves out during the weekend. On the out lap the bottom bolt was the winner and left the car! I didn’t notice it on the out lap, but the caliper bracket was now contacting the wheel and starting to wear through it. Turn 1 on the first lap is when I stood on the brakes hard for the first time and immediately I could hear the nasty howling noise the contact was making. I quickly pulled over to the side, let everyone by, and nursed the car back to the pits where the caliper has just worn completely through the wheel in one spot causing the wheel to go flat. My race was done, but thanks to Alex Della Torre we were able to get a replacement bolt, used a tire from our other set of slicks, and my dad didn’t miss his race!
Sundays qualifying race i started P15 because of my DNF in Saturdays race, and it was a nice and easy dry race (my only 11 dry laps all weekend) where my goal was to move up the field and put myself in a good position to compete for the win in Sundays race. I accomplished this and finished P6.
Sundays race was another wet race where I went from P6 to P1 on the first lap, only for me to lock up going into turn 1 a few laps later and give up the lead. I only dropped back to P2, but battled to regain the lead for 5 laps to no avail. P1 then had a transmission issue allowing me to easily overtake him and with no other pressure from behind I nursed my half-treaded rain tires across the finish line for my first win!
Next up is the Mid-Ohio super tour event where I like my chances for a podium finish. Looking at data from the few dry laps I had at Gingerman, it showed the same type of improvement I saw at Waterford Hills, so I feel pretty good about being more competitive than last year.
